Spider Research? hmmm...
i could hardly contain myself when i learned that i had been selected for this program. i mean.. firstly its an attachment to NUS.. which is already WOW.. then its actually a research! meaning we're actually gonna help them do it.. or at least that was the first impression i had of it.. reason being that limited info about the whole thing was given to us. it was not until we met the researcher herself, eunice, that i found out what kind of crap i got myself into. i thought we were gonna research about something more, erm, say exciting. looking at larger spiders? cuz the one we're researching are way small.. probably the size of one letter here.. yup.. i mean it.
nevertheless, i signed up for this. i was selected for it. i can't possibly back out now right? i mean.. no matter how little interest i had in it. backing out is definitely not an option here. and so.. i went.. and 4 days of attachment followed.. with rather hilarious findings.. nope not based on the research itself of cuz.. i found other ways to entertain my bored self..

the place.. well 1 of it.. where we conducted our research

the erm.. pond view from where we were.. lol

HongQing.. my partner in crime..

a reef crab i think..

mudskipper.. haha.. yup.. it was that small..

lol.. peeping erm.. dog?

we did all sorts of things to entertain ourselves as we waited for the hours to pass by where we had to periodically take down readings of the temperature, humidity, light intensity, etc.. so we kinda explored the island as u could probably tell from the pictures above.. observing marine life rather than spiders.. spooked by the horrendously big flies.. goosebumps from seeing how despo a god can get on ubin.. and climbing hills on ubin.. haha.. yea. we did all that.. it rocks when u actually been there for a camp few months back.. so u kinda remember where all the fun stuff were.. and difficult tracks were.. haha.. i'm sorry hongqing for bringing u along with me.. i needed to entertain myself.. haha.. we both had fun nonetheless.. i mean..it beats waiting under the canopy.. which did little to shield us from the scorching sun and heatwave.. trying to study which we apparently failed rather miserably.. yea.. the experience there.. was.. eye opening... for the field of research.. but i really find no interest in animals which don't move around much.. as i found on during this prog.. being more interested into marine animals found along the coastal areas.. even the researcher commented in the report she drafted for us.. that i should sign up for things i am truly interested in.. hey.. i'm only 17.. and we dont really get to expose ourselves to alot of things.. so yea.. i'm trying to find out what exactly do i like doing.. and what i like in nature exactly..
the findings? marine life.. really.. i should have signed up for the st john trip.. it would have been much more fulfilling and interesting for me.. but it was snapped out too fast altogether.. so no choice i guess..
o well.. life is a learning experience anyways.
